Patented Wood-Block Encapsulation
Universal Floor and Wall Systems holds a patent for wood-block encapsulation (United States Patent #: 8,327,602B2) (Canadian Patent #: 2,769,864). This cost-effective, revolutionary alternative to concrete caps saves clients a fortune and days worth of shutdown time by encapsulating the wood-block instead of having to take it out and pour a new concrete cap.
What is Wood Block Flooring?
Wood-Block, or end-grain, flooring was originally installed in factories dating back to the 1920’s as a more forgiving, more comfortable, and quieter alternative to industrial coatings. They have since lost popularity due to their many limitations and environmental issues.
If there was a leak in a factory or water was spilled, these wood-blocks would soak up the water, swell, and give off a foul odor.
These blocks were also usually treated with creosote which is hazardous.
Benefits of Universal’s System

3-day installation for 5,000 sq. ft. compared to 2-3 month installation if the wood-block is to be removed
